Files are quickly virus scanned before download.
They have a 'My Files' page which contains all the files you upload, and that data is saved via cookie on your computer. The 'My Files' page allows you to create folders, assign tags to files, delete files, password protect files, e-mail download links, assign file descriptions, view your images in a gallery, and toggle files private/public. It also tracks the number of times your files have been downloaded.
There is a possibility your files will get deleted eventually. This is taken from their FAQ about their file life:
There is currently no time limit on how long uploaded files will be stored, but please keep in mind that MediaFire was designed to let people host files and images to share with others. It was not meant to be used as a backup service. In the future, if it becomes necessary to remove any files, we will notify you in advance at the e-mail address that you used to create a free account. Any files removed would be on an as-needed basis and would apply to older and less frequently downloaded files first.

Once the download started the speed was dramatically slower then when they are not at full capacity. Also, after the 1 minute timer was finished counting down and the link became available, when I clicked the link it looped me back to the same page putting me into a second 1 minute queue.

According to their site the free membership plan has a 1GB per month download limit. This means that no files uploaded on that account can be downloaded anymore for the month once the total download bandwidth has reached 1GB. The site mentions nothing of a bandwidth limit on files uploaded without an account, but I'm sure there is one since they have one on the free account.

Jan 24 2008: File upload failure "An Unknown Error has Occurred".
Feb 12 2008: It seems that after the upload is finished the "An Unknown Error has Occurred" message happens fairly often. If you enter in a valid e-mail address before the upload you will still receive the download link in the e-mail even if you get that error.
