Supports download managers and accelerators (this link is a list of ones that cause problems with the site though). Files are quickly virus scanned before download. They have a 'My Files' page which contains all the files you upload, and that data is saved via cookie on your computer. The 'My Files' page allows you to create folders, assign tags to files, delete files, password protect files, e-mail download links, assign file descriptions, view your images in a gallery, and toggle files private/public. It also tracks the number of times your files have been downloaded.
There is a possibility your files will get deleted eventually. This is taken from their FAQ about their file life: There is currently no time limit on how long uploaded files will be stored, but please keep in mind that MediaFire was designed to let people host files and images to share with others. It was not meant to be used as a backup service. In the future, if it becomes necessary to remove any files, we will notify you in advance at the e-mail address that you used to create a free account. Any files removed would be on an as-needed basis and would apply to older and less frequently downloaded files first.
Supports download accelerators. Offers a reward system / reward system rules You can choose to enter in an e-mail address before the upload which will also be sent the download link.
You can only receive a delete file link if you supply a valid e-mail address before the upload. It's then sent to it after the upload completes. They limit the amount of data you can download from their servers within a certain timespan (they do not list specific numbers).
You can choose to enter in an e-mail address before the upload which will also be sent the download link. Has a good quality upload progress bar.
You are limited to 1GB of downloads per day.
Feb 6 2008: Received the message of "Sorry, the free service is at full capacity" and was put into a 1 minute queue when trying to download a test file. Once the download started the speed was dramatically slower then when they are not at full capacity. Also, after the 1 minute timer was finished counting down and the link became available, when I clicked the link it looped me back to the same page putting me into a second 1 minute queue.
Has 3 different upload-datapaths from you to choose from when uploading your file. Has a list of several different download mirrors that you can choose from before downloading your file. Allows you to create folders (which can be password protected) to put uploaded files in.
There is a download limit placed on your IP address which controls how much you're allowed to download. For example, I downloaded a 2MB file then had a 1 minute wait before I could download another file. I downloaded a 12MB file then had a 25 minute wait. After I downloaded a 100MB file I had a 105 minute wait. When using the multi upload feature, the total sum of all files you're uploading cannot exceed 100MB.
You can choose to enter in an e-mail address before the upload which will also be sent the download link.
Files you upload can only be downloaded 100 times. According to their site the free membership plan has a 1GB per month download limit. This means that no files uploaded on that account can be downloaded anymore for the month once the total download bandwidth has reached 1GB. The site mentions nothing of a bandwidth limit on files uploaded without an account, but I'm sure there is one since they have one on the free account.
The only way to receive your download link is if you enter a valid e-mail address before the upload. It's then e-mailed to it after the upload. Free membership requires you sign-up via an external program you have to download.
Jan 24 2008: Upon clicking the download link of a password protected file the site would send me back to enter in the password. It looped me back 3 times in a row until it finally started the download. Jan 24 2008: File upload failure "An Unknown Error has Occurred". Feb 12 2008: It seems that after the upload is finished the "An Unknown Error has Occurred" message happens fairly often. If you enter in a valid e-mail address before the upload you will still receive the download link in the e-mail even if you get that error.
There is a per hour download limit on your IP address, and a 4.8GB per day download limit. Files over 100MB are split into multiple pieces. In order to merge them back together after all the pieces are downloaded you can either install their Badongo Buddy software, or download and run their filemerger.bat files.
